I am Nesia

I am Nesia is a photography series about the effects of the 2020 lockdown on the human spirit. Each image was made by turning the lens focus in the wrong direction, so that landscapes became soft fields of colour that resemble watercolour paintings. A dark figure was then added to each scene as a metaphor for fear and anxiety, and a grain texture completes the compositions. The series is produced as large format light boxes of 1200 by 2000 millimetres. The intent is to record a period of uncertainty and to show that people can adapt and prevail.

Nght

A series about the beauty of sunsets, moonrises, and reflections. Due to the different light conditions during the day the same building can look different each time you look at it. During the retouching process, the buildings get isolated from their environment to bring out the uniqueness of the buildings and to be able to edit the sky. In some cases, they are also manipulated to give it a more surreal touch.

Penumbra

The designer took photos at a time when leaving the house and meeting people was a challenge, i.e. during the pandemic. Staying at home for a long time triggered the author's creativity. Her works were taken in color first, then changed to black and white. Everything was done digitally. Only one photo she took with artificial light from a lamp and it is a portrait of a boy. Silhouettes are often shown hidden.

Talking Peppers

Talking Peppers is a black and white art photograph from the series Nus Nous. The image shows peppers recorded in close-up, yet many viewers see human bodies or parts of them. When the print is rotated, the imagined forms disappear and other shapes may be seen instead. The photograph is taken with a large format optical bench camera and microscope optics at very small apertures, which gives a shallow depth of field. The negative is printed by hand on cotton-backed paper and toned with selenium for long durability.

Satoro

Satoro is a series of photographs of a small satellite, produced for RedPeak. The images were taken before the satellite was sent into orbit, in a field where digital renderings are common. White backgrounds show the intricate details of the design, while the framing gives a sense of weight and presence. The compositions range from close-ups of small parts to wide-angle views of the complete unit. Contrasts of light and shadow reveal the patterns on the reflective metal surfaces. The photographs were made over two days in Taipei for digital and print use.
